It's in Glacier, WA  follow the blog, shit is starting to go down and it looks like we may be able to save it, make yourself aware and help where you can.

http://thecoalpaddiyskatespot.blogspot.com

For the last four years, the skateboarders in the small town of Glacier have been slowly building a spot to skate at. The location of this "skate spot" has had a long history of being a site for dumping, shooting, 4x4, etc., as well as a resting place for tons of processed anthracite. Which we piled against the barriers, poured concrete on, and then skated on our new bank. We built very slowly for four years, thinking the end would have come sooner. This summer, we had tremendous support and use of the spot expanded. Everyday would bring wide eyed visitors, and returning kids, young and older, also parents who heard about the spot with their 8 year old in tow. The vibe was very positive and we were very optimistic, so we continued to build, making it bigger and better. We have a huge following and limitless support from all community members. This summer saw an unmatched positive community involvement where every one who was able has donated, helped, and learned. Creating a sense of pride and unity for all involved, skateboarder and non skaters alike. Not to mention enthusiasts from Seattle and beyond who venture out to have a look and ride. Unfortunately, a man bought the land at a public land auction two weeks ago.. Whatcom County Planning and Development is fining him thousands for the unpermitted structures (concrete skateboard bowl). The owner is sympathetic to our situation, but must destroy our skatepark to avoid further fines. He wants to see the town get its own park from the county. Which is unlikely and the product won't be as original as what we have going on. I am looking for alternatives to having our "skatepark" bulldozed. The best case sinario would see the land donated, and the proper actions taken in order to continue. Please contact me at bgwmiller@hotmail.com or 360-599-2378

Get involved
After some phone calls and emails, things are a little more optimistic... I have been speaking with the property owner, who has been very upset about his predicament. The last time I spoke with him, he sounded a bit more at ease. I emailed the Whatcom County Council, and Barbera Brenner called me back immediately, she gave me a lawyer's number. I called him and gave him the parcel number, I haven't spoken with him yet. I also spoke with the enforcer of the fines who said that there are definitely alternatives to tearing out our hard earned skate spot... After speaking to a friend in the mortgage industry, who spoke with the title office, it sounds like we have some time! The County is urging the man to sell the property, by June 2010, they now realize that he is not responsible for the structures and are giving him leeway. There is a whole hillside on this property with down hill mountain bike trails on it, which is used very regularly by the twenties of people. Perhaps it will be possible work with the bikers to obtain the land and keep building and protect our prized assets that we have built and maintained ourselves... We have been collecting signatures to show support for the skate spot, but we might have to include the mountain bikers to gain more people involved...

Nice post.

I heard someone bought the property. To bad it wasn't created on national forest. Hopefully the new owners might be cool and let it stay.
